Google warns this Pixel smartphone users of battery fire risk: Here’s what the company wants users to do

Google has issued an urgent warning for Pixel 6a users about a possible battery overheating issue.

This comes after reports of some devices catching fire on some devices and they’re rolling out a mandatory software update to deal with it.

This update isn’t for all Pixel 6a users, just a subset of devices, but Google will contact those affected sometime next month with all the details.

Users who see this warning are advised to either replace their battery or upgrade their phone.

In the past few weeks, two separate Pixel 6a phones reportedly caught fire, one incident in May and another just last week.

Photos shared by users on Reddit and reports by Android Authority have revealed melted devices caused by battery overheating.

This update isn’t for all Pixel 6a users, just a subset of devices, but Google will contact those affected sometime next month with all the details.

This isn’t the first time a Pixel phone has had battery trouble. A few years ago, the Pixel 4a faced a similar issue, which led to performance throttling, free battery replacements, and even an official recall in Australia.

Thankfully, the Pixel 6a situation doesn’t seem quite as serious — but it’s still worth taking seriously.
